Why CPR Support Makes the ZOLL AED Plus® Different
Most AEDs deliver a shock — and stop there. The ZOLL AED Plus® goes further by actively supporting the rescuer through the full cardiac arrest response.
Research shows that 50% of cardiac arrest rescues begin with a "no shock advised" analysis — meaning CPR is the only intervention available. Without an AED that can measure and guide compressions, rescuers are working blind.
According to the American Heart Association's 2010 Guidelines, survival rates for cardiac arrest decrease by 10% per minute without CPR. After 10 minutes, the chance of survival reaches zero. But with high-quality CPR — at least 100 compressions per minute, at least 2 inches deep — survival rates decrease by only 4% per minute, leaving a 60% survival chance after 10 minutes.
The ZOLL AED Plus® is the only AED that can see your CPR and tell you if it's working.
What High-Quality CPR Does
Evacuates blood from the heart. When cardiac arrest occurs, veins continue delivering blood to the heart for 4–5 minutes, causing it to become distended. CPR clears this blood buildup, making a shock more effective — even in cases of ventricular fibrillation (VF).
Delivers oxygenated blood to the brain. Effective CPR reduces brain damage, extends survival time, and improves quality of life for survivors.
Delivers oxygenated blood to the heart. Defibrillation alone isn't enough. A shocked heart that doesn't receive oxygenated blood immediately afterward may not recover. CPR is the fuel that makes the shock work — without it, restarting the heart is like turning a key in a car with no gas.
